Monsoon season with hot piped fritters/pakoras, Bhajiyas, and hot tandoori baked corn is what we all wish for. This monsoon however, I tried a new and delicious Mumbai street-style Chinese bhel at my friends get together and found it perfect to share with all my friends who are waiting for my new recipe.
Veg Chinese bhel is one of the most loved street food among youngsters these days. It's getting so popular and tastes so good that many restaurants have brought this cuisine to their fine dining menus. I guess this is a proud feat for our street food lovers and makers.
Chinese bhel is a fast food recipe that originated in Mumbai and is inspired by American chop suey and Indian bhel. It’s a delicious blend of Indian spices and tangy sauces with crispy fried noodles along with the veggie salad. I feel it’s a perfect go-to snack while shopping or having a chit-chat time with your friends.

Steps To Prepare Crispy Chinese Bhel At Home
Step-1
Take 4 cups of water in a big vessel and bring it to a boil. Add the noodles to the boiling water and cook for 4-5 minutes maximum. Check the tenderness and if they are half done, turn off the flame. Make sure the noodles are half done or not cooked completely.
Note: I am using instant atta noodles here but you can choose to use all-purpose flour or atta noodles as per your preference and taste.
Step-2
Strain the boiled noodles through the colander in order to remove all the starch water. Now rinse them with a cup of cold water. Keep it aside and make sure all the water is drained out. Afterwards, let the noodles cool down for about 10 minutes.
Step-3
Transfer the noodles to a big bowl or plate and add cornflour gradually to it. Toss the noodle with your fingers and coat all the noodles nicely. This is an important step in order to get crispy noodles after frying.
Step-4
Heat oil in a kadhai and drop a batch of coated noodles in the hot oil.
Step-5
Fry them on medium flame till they become golden red and crispy from both sides. Take out the crispy fried noodles on a kitchen towel to remove excess oil. Follow the same process of frying for other batches of noodles. Once fried and cooled down, keep them in an air-tight container in order to prevent them from getting soggy.
Step-6
Moving to the next step, take a mixing bowl, add chopped onion, carrot, capsicum, tomato, and green chili together, and mix well. Cover it with a cellophane sheet and keep it in the refrigerator. I prefer to use cold veggie salad to make the Chinese bhel crunchier and tastier.
Step-7
To add the real tangy flavor, let's prepare a quick sauce. In a bowl mix all our mentioned sauce ingredients which are lemon juice, soy sauce, tomato ketchup, sweet and hot chili sauce, red chili powder, sugar, and salt. Stir and combine all the ingredients well.
Step-8
Like other crunchy Indian bhels, Veg Chinese bhel is also best to be prepared just before serving as it becomes soggy over time. So to prepare the final serve, take a big platter, add the prepared cold vegetable salad, and crushed crispy noodles. Then at last pour the tangy sauce and combine all the ingredients properly to infuse flavor in each and every bite.
Final Serve
Top up and garnish the crispy Chinese noodles bhel with chopped green onions and serve to enjoy the Mumbai special street food at home.
