Step-by-step method of making homemade Strawberry Jam
Step-1
Wash the fresh strawberries and wipe them with a dry kitchen towel. Remove the green leafy part of the strawberry and chop all the strawberries in a uniform shape.
Step-2
Take a big vessel, add chopped strawberries and sugar into it.
Step-3
Toss the chopped strawberries and sugar to mix well.
Step-4
Cover the bowl with a lid and let it rest for about 2-3 hours. Ensure stirring after every half an hour.
Note: During this process, strawberries will release all the moisture, juice, and squeeze up.
Step-5
Start the cooking process on a medium flame. Bring it to boil. Keep stirring at regular intervals. Continue the process till it becomes dense and reduced. This process will take 15-20 minutes to complete.
Note: In the meanwhile, take an empty saucer and keep it in the refrigerator for about an hour for it to become cold. We will be needing this for checking jam consistency.
Step-6
Using a potato masher mash the strawberries once they are cooked and reduced.
Step-7
Keep stirring and when the fruit mix shows thick consistency and starts leaving the edges of the cooking pan, it indicates that the jam is now ready to set.
Note: I'm not adding any preservatives to my jam as it doesn't require any because this needs to be stored in the refrigerator after preparation.Step-8
Once the jam seems ready, take the empty cold saucer out of the refrigerator and pour a little prepared jam on it. Wait for a few seconds and now tilt the plate. If the jam drips down, it suggests that it requires more cooking. If it stays, then the jam is now ready to be preserved.
Step-9
Allow the jam to cool. Once cooled, it will become thicker. Store it in a dry jar and keep it in the refrigerator for sustained use.
Note: For longer shelf life, don't use a wet spoon or hand to scoop out the jam ever.
