Ingredients
Major
- Yellow split moong dal- 2 cups
- Water-for boiling- 4-5 cups
Veggies
- Finely chopped onion- 2
- Finely chopped tomato-2
- Finely chopped cucumber-1
- Finely chopped green chilies-2
- Chopped coriander-1/2 cup
- Squeezed lemon juice-1 tablespoon
Spices
- Chaat masala powder- 1 tablespoon
- Rock salt- 1/2 tablespoon
- Salt- 1 and 1/2 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon each (needed while boiling the dal)
Recipe for making Moong Dal Bhel/Chaat
Step-1
Soak dal for at least an hour or overnight.
Step-2
Heat water in a kadhai/ deep pan. Remove excess water from the dal and add it to the boiling water.
Step-3
Add 1 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder and cook. Remove the scum that appears while boiling.
Step-4
Check if the dal is cooked.
Step-5
Strain the water and keep the dal aside to cool.
Note: Don't discard the water. It's full of nutrients and can be used as stock in soup, for flour kneading, rice pulao, and other cooking purposes.
Step-6
Once the dal is cooled, take a big mixing bowl and add dal to it.
Step-7
Add all the chopped veggies like tomato, onion, cucumber, chili, and coriander.
Step-8
Add chaat masala, rock salt, salt, lemon juice, and mix well.
Final Serve
A highly nutritious, fat-free, zero oil, protein-rich moong breakfast/snack is ready.
