Bread Poha is my all-time favourite. I've fond memories associated with this Indian style snack. In my childhood days, my uncle used to make this dish for us siblings with soaked and squeezed bread. It used to be so savouring for us.
Then me and my sister started preparing it, and with time we modified this old recipe. I've been making this easy breakfast for years and now it has become a best-loved quick snack for the family. Bread Poha is an ideal way of using leftover bread or fresh bread with lots of flavours added to it.

Ingredients
Veggies
- 2 large capsicums
- 4 medium-sized tomatoes
- 2 medium-sized onions
- 1 cup shredded cabbage or lettuce
Spices and others
- White bread slices- 6 ( you can have your choice of bread)
- Ketchup - 5 tablespoons
- Desi Ghee/clarified butter - 2 tablespoons
- Mustard seeds - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - 1 tablespoon (as per taste)
- Turmeric - 1/2 tablespoon
- Red chilli powder - 1/4 tablespoons
- Kashmiri chilli powder - 1/2 tablespoons
- Pao bhaji masala- 1teaspoon
- Roasted peanuts-1/2 cup
Directions To Cook Masala Bread Upma
Step 1
Shred the cabbage and chop capsicums, tomatoes, and onions julienne.
Step 2
Apply little ketchup on both sides of the bread slices. Stack and cut them into small square pieces.
Note: The amount of ketchup used should be according to taste as more ketchup will make Poha Sweeter.
Step 3
Take a wok and heat about 3 tablespoons of ghee/butter and add in 1 tablespoon of mustard seeds. Wait till it starts crackling. Add the chopped onion and sauté till they turn golden pink.
Step 4
When the onions turn golden brown, add the capsicum and sauté on a medium flame for 2 minutes
Step 5
As the capsicum turns a little softer, add on the chopped tomatoes, cabbage and sauté on a medium flame for 2 minutes.
Step 6
It's time to add all the spices: Add salt, turmeric, Pao bhaji masala, red chilli powder and Kashmiri Mirch.
Step 7
Add bread pieces and roasted peanuts in the wok. Mix well.
Step 8
Garnish it with chopped coriander. Spicy moist delicious masala bread Poha is ready to serve.
